How to Measure Your Bike

Clients often express confusion at how to properly measure their current bike so that they can give us the right information to set up their rental bike. This page gives you the basics on the 2 measurements that are most important. If you have 3 minutes of time and know how to use a tape measure, you can do this.

The first measurement is from the bottom bracket (BB) to the top of the saddle. The BB is the assembly on which the crankarms rotate. It is the moral equivalent of the North Star in navigating bike fit - everything is referenced from it either directly or indirectly. Simply take your tape measure and go from the center of the BB to the top of the saddle and read off the distance.

Please measure in millimeters - metric is good enough for the rest of the world, it's good enough for America. We will accept measurements in inches but will only communicate back in metric - BikeConcierge is doing our part to get the US of A on board with the program.

The second measurement goes from the widest part of the saddle to where the stem clamps onto the handlebars. This way, if we don't have your first choice saddle, we can set the bike up with a different saddle but still get the most anatomically relevant measurement of how far the bars are from where you will sit on the saddle.
